Thank you to Veda Silva and the African American Museum and Library at Oakland (AAMLO) for hosting our 2016 Conference and thank you to Juliana ‘Jewels’ Smith, who received our award. Jewels Smith is the creator of (H)Afrocentric, which examines pressing social issues.

Thank you to Shannon Holbrook, who served as the MC for last year’s conference, thank you to Cape Cowl Comics for donating a gift certificate to the conference; thank you to Will Waller and Hugh Behm-Steinberg of Eleven Eleven for donating journals to the event; thank you to Lara Polansky for discussing the Prisoners Literature Project’s work;  We donated to the Prisoners Literature Project, raised awareness about AfroSurrealism and social justice, showed Tananarive Due‘s film Lost, and celebrated local artists Summer Brenner, Tan Khanh Cao, Carol Hood, Thaddeus Howze, Jasmine Wade and Audrey Williams.
